After the candlelight revolution, brand new president has been elected.
President Moon Jae-in, from Democratic party, announced several liberal
policies in energy and environment. He ordered temporary shutdown of
eight old coal power plants during the month of June, tackling air
pollution. Korea, along with many countries in East Asia, is suffering from
air pollution for which the coal power plants and cars are to blame.
Moon’s decision is an upgraded version of the pledge. As a presidential
candidate, he had promised nuclear-phase-out by 2060, and expansion
of renewable energy.
